We visited on a Monday, knowing the fort & visitor center weren't open. This was all the time we had to spend in Connecticut. The outside grounds are free & I would have liked more information boards… Full review by Cynthia K

We visited while we were in the area for a boat day cruise. Not an overly big fort, but still worth seeing. Self guided and worth a 30 min stop. Full review by Christina B

I am pretty sure you can, I did see people walking dogs on a leash, but whether it was allowed, I do not know. Give them a call.

I always see kids there and they seem to be having fun. They usually climbing on the cannons outside and as was said previously, plenty of places to run around including a big hill.

Thinking of bringing an out-of-town history buff there today (11/7) How much time should I allow since it seems that the fort itself is closed? Are any indoor spaces open? Is that any historical info available or is it just self-guided walking around the grounds outdoors? Thanks

there are some plaques with information around the area. the walk around is quite nice and we spent probably 2 hours
